Best hawker food in Penang

Do you know that Penang has some of the
best hawker food in Malaysia ?

In fact Penang street delicacies like the
famous Penang laksa, char kuey teow, lor mee,
curry mee, prawn mee, loh bak, cendol, etc
are so popular that many foreign tourists
visited this island just to sample its culinary
delights.

But over the years, these hawker dishes have deteriorated
in taste and standards.

This is because the younger generation of Penangites
are no longer keen in being a streetside vendor, and
prefers to work in offices and restaurants with more
conducive working environment.

Due to this, most of the dishes are now cooked and
prepared by immigrants from Bangladesh, Myanmar,
India, Vietnam and Thailand.

According to Wendy Tan, who resides in an upmarket
condo in Tanjung Tokong, foreign workers do not know
how local food tastes exactly .... and they also do not
have the right skills to cook them .... after all, they dont
even grow up eating such foods ......

To ensure that foreign tourists can find the best hawker
foods in Penang, the local government has decided that
with effect from 1st January 2016, foreigners are not
allowed to become the main cook in the hawker stalls.

This regulation shall then help to maintain the unique
tastes and flavours of Penang's food heritage, and ensure
the legacy of the food trail continues perpetually .
